About SGMF
SGMF was founded in 2013 to promote safety and industry best practice in the use and bunkering of gaseous marine fuels. Focusing initially on liquefied natural gas (LNG) – methane – we’ve since expanded our output into other low and zero carbon fuels – methanol, ammonia and hydrogen.
In 2018 we developed our bunkering assessment system information tool, known as BASiL . Since then, the tool has been used by the industry internationally for the safe and efficient bunkering of LNG as a marine fuel.
Also in 2018, SGMF gained consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and in 2023 we were awarded observer status at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP). We have also established formal relationships with many other national and international organisations.
SGMF is now recognised as the definitive information resource for the industry on low and zero carbon marine fuels for the maritime industry worldwide.
